In Year 3 our English and Mathematics work is based on the Primary Framework for Literacy and Mathematics.
In all other curriculum subject areas we have customized and adapted the QCDA schemes of work to suit our school and our pupils’ needs. We aim to give them a broad base in their Primary education. Each child’s individual needs will be met when possible enabling them to achieve to the highest level.
A very brief summary of the objectives for Year 3 follow below.

· Light and Shadows. This unit introduces the relationship between light, an object and the formation of shadows. Children observe the apparent movement of the Sun and the associated changes in shadows.
· Materials: Through this unit children should extend their knowledge of the range of materials we use and of the properties that characterise them. This knowledge should help them recognise what needs to be considered when a material is chosen for a particular use.
· Teeth and healthy eating: Work in this unit should reinforce and develop children's knowledge of their personal health and how this relates to diet. They should learn about how teeth are related to diet and the importance of dental care.
· Helping plants grow healthily: In this unit children learn about what plants need to grow well and why it is important that they do.
· Springs and Magnets: This unit gives children experience of forces, including attraction and repulsion between magnets, compression and stretching of springs and stretching of elastic bands.
