Physical Education

Here at St. Anne’s School, the pupils follow a Physical Education Curriculum coherent with the National Curriculum Guidelines for England and Wales.

We believe Physical Education should involve pupils in the continuous process of performing, planning and evaluating.  This applies to all areas of activity. Furthermore, the greatest emphasis is always placed on the actual performance aspect of the subject.

In each year group throughout the school, pupils will be taught six areas of activity: Invasion Games, Net Games, Athletic Activities, Gymnastic Activities, Striking Games and Swimming on a six to eight week block basis.  At the end of each activity block, the pupils are afforded the opportunity to compete against classmates in Inter-House Tournaments.

    The activities offered are:

Assessment: Pupils are assessed in diagnostic, continual and summative stages against National Standards.  Also pupil self assessment is common practice in many of the activities. Feedback on progress is provided to both pupils and parents on a regular basis through Assessment Profiles.

    International School Events

In addition to the Inter-House Tournaments, pupils can also represent St. Anne’s School and compete against other International Schools of Madrid.

Regular competitions are organised for every activity at varying venues in and around the city.

     Sports Day

We at St. Anne’s are afforded the opportunity to hold an Inter-House Athletics competition in the athletics stadium at San Sebastian de los Reyes.

It is an all day event in which parents are cordially invited to attend. Each pupil from nursery to bachillerato has to participate in at least one activity. Every point gained be it by run, jump or throw is recorded and goes towards an overall house winner. This is without doubt the pinnacle of the Inter-House year.

Furthermore the boy and girl who achieves the most individual points in Primary, Middle and Secondary School respectively, is presented with a trophy as the Sports Champion for their age category.

    Gymnastics Awards

In addition to the gymnastics curriculum covered, exceptional pupils are also afforded the opportunity to follow the British Amateur Gymnastics Association’s award scheme. Through this, talented pupils can challenge themselves at their level with the possibility of achieving bronze, silver or gold in the disciplines of floor, pairs and vaulting respectively. This initiative has brought about some wonderfuñl performances and has been a thrilling experience for all involved.
